QTA issued the latest Industrial Relations Alert (Issue 16).
The Fair Work Act 2009 (the Act) requires the Fair Work Commission’s Expert Panel (Minimum Wage Panel) to conduct and complete a review of minimum wages in modern awards and the national minimum wage in each financial year. The Minimum Wage Panel of Fair Work Commission today (Tuesday 31st May 2016) released its National Wage Case decision.
The decision provides that:
- All Modern Award classification scales shall increase by 2.4% rounded to the nearest 10 cents (2015 2.5% increase)
- The federal minimum wage for award free employees shall be $672.70 per week or $17.70 per hour. The hourly rate has been calculated on the basis of a 38 hour week for a full-time employee. This constitutes an increase $15.80 per week.
- The increases shall apply from the first pay period on or after 1st July 2016.
