The new rates have now been published on the ATO website.
As at 31 March 2026, the effective position for heavy vehicles operating on public roads was:
- Fuel excise: 52.6 cents per litre
- Road user charge (RUC): 32.4 cents per litre
- Net fuel tax credit rebate: 20.2 cents per litre
Under the new temporary April to June 2026 arrangement, this changes to:
- Fuel excise: 20.6 cents per litre
- Road user charge: Nil - (RUC is not part of the terminal gate price)
- Fuel tax credit rebate: 20.6 cents per litre
The ATO has also confirmed that the heavy auxiliary equipment claim rate (off road allowance) is reduced to 20.6 cents per litre for this period.
