Long-Awaited $336M Tiaro Bypass Moves Closer

The long-awaited $336 million Tiaro Bypass has taken a significant step toward reality, with the Queensland Government officially launching the procurement process for the major Bruce Highway project with expressions of interest from contractors set to open in August, marking the beginning of the search for a builder to deliver the transformative infrastructure project.

Jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments, the bypass has been designed (see image below) to address longstanding traffic and safety concerns in the Fraser Coast region.

Key features of the project include:

• An 8.5km four-lane highway bypass
• Grade-separated interchanges north and south of Tiaro
• Enhanced flood immunity along the highway corridor
• Improved traffic flow for motorists and freight operators
• Increased safety for local residents and pedestrians

The project is expected to significantly reduce traffic volumes through Tiaro’s town centre while creating a more reliable transport route for both local and interstate travellers.

Construction is expected to begin in 2027, subject to procurement and final approvals.
