BCC advises they will be undertaking essential maintenance works on the Story Bridge (Bradfield Highway) including a full bridge closure.

When

Works will run from 9pm Thursday 2 April to 5am Monday 13 April 2026 with the following closures:
  • Single southbound lane closure - 9pm Thursday 2 April to 9pm Saturday 11 April 2026

  • Full closure of Story Bridge - 9pm Saturday 11 April to 1pm Sunday 12 April 2026

  • One lane open in either direction - 1pm Sunday 12 April to 5am Monday 13 April 2026

What do the works include

Concrete repair works will occur beneath the road surface on the Bradfield Highway section of the Story Bridge at Kangaroo Point. The concrete repair works will not be seen from the road.

Traffic lane closures, including a full bridge closure, are required to ensure the safety of road users and workers, and to reduce vibrations during concrete curing.

Bridge inspections and other minor maintenance activities will be undertaken during the lane closures and full bridge closure.

Some temporary closures of the eastern footpath will be required at night during this period. Detour signage will be in place to direct pedestrians, cyclists and e-mobility riders as required.

These essential works have been planned to occur during the April Easter school holiday period when traffic volumes are lower and to coincide with the closure of the bridge for the Tour de Brisbane Cycling event on Sunday 12 April 2026.
