Transport for NSW will be constructing a new overtaking lane on the Golden Highway, approximately 12km west of Merriwa.
Construction has started this week and will continue until February 2027, weather permitting.
During works, two‑way traffic will generally be maintained, although contraflow arrangements and occasional short closures will be required.
From July to December 2026, the road width will be reduced to approximately 8.5 metres.
Access to nearby Five Miles Creek Heavy Vehicle Rest Area will be maintained.
Oversize Overmass (OSOM) management
To support OSOM movements during construction, temporary OSOM pullover bays will be provided at:
OSOM bay capacity:
Suitable for one OSOM vehicle up to 50m long and 6.9m wide while maintaining two‑way traffic.
Larger vehicles are expected to temporarily occupy a traffic lane.
Expected holding time: 5–10 minutes.
Important – contact us for larger loads
If your load exceeds 6.9m in width or 50m in length, please call us at least TWO days before arrival. This ensures we can arrange additional traffic control and coordinate safe passage through the site to help avoid delays.
Site contact: Works Supervisor 0435 677 831 or via UHF 25.
