NSW Traffic Alert: Changed traffic conditions on the Newell Highway

Please be advised of changed traffic conditions that commenced on Wednesday 10 August and will take place for approximately four weeks, between Narrabri and Moree, due to a range of projects taking place.

  • Pavement widening works near Bobbiwaa Creek
  • Clearing works and the installation of barriers south of Moree and around Bellata
  • Heavy patching works between Gurley and Moree from early to mid-August. From 15 August work will commence north of Moree

OSOM vehicles over 3.8m wide should plan ahead, check signage and register their trip 24 hours prior to travel with the Project Team on 1800 741 636

Drivers travelling between Narrabri and Moree should expect ongoing delays of at least fifteen minutes, with a reduced speed limit of 60km/h, single lane contra-flow closures and intermittent stops planned between 7am-5pm, Tuesday to Friday. 

Rest Area Update

  • The Woolabrar Rest Area, north of Bellata will be intermittently closed from 15 August over the next 12 months. Alternatively, motorists are advised to use Tookey Creek Rest Area located 3.6km north of the Woolabrar Rest Area
  • Heavy vehicle drivers are urged to use a rest area 2km north of Tookey Creek
