The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) advises that for 6 hours, from 10pm Friday 25 September to 4am Saturday 26 September 2026 there will be a full closure of the westbound section of the Bremer River Bridge on the Warrego Highway, Karalee. During this closure general traffic will be diverted onto the eastbound Bremer River Bridge utilising the existing median cross over under controlled traffic management.
What to expect
While works are underway, temporary night-time lane closures will continue to be implemented.
Oversize loads exceeding 3.5m in width will be required to use a temporary detour via Walloon, using the Cunningham Highway, Ipswich-Rosewood Road and Haigslea-Amberley Roads (see detour map below). Heavy vehicle operators are reminded to follow detour signage when travelling along this detour route.
Oversize Overmass loads, or vehicles, seeking access to the detour route during the closure period that exceed any current restrictions in the Conditions of Operation Database (CoOD), must apply for a special assessment permit through the NHVR Portal.
Timing
- Works which cannot be undertaken near live traffic will occur from 10pm Friday 25 September to 4am Saturday 26 September 2026, weather and construction conditions permitting.
- Typical construction hours are from 10pm Friday night to 4am Saturday morning.
- Night works are required for road user safety and to avoid what would otherwise be extensive traffic queuing and disruption to the road network.
- While most of the works will be undertaken during this time, some out of hours works may be required.
Impacts
- Temporary traffic changes include road shoulder and lane closures, traffic detours for oversize loads exceeding 3.5m (see detour map below), roadworks speed limit reductions and short-term traffic disruptions. Please allow extra time when planning your travel and follow the directions of roadside signage and traffic controllers.
