SEQ: Temporary closures and detours for Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers 2026

The Department of Transport and Main Roads advises the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers Festival will take place on Saturday, 19 September 2026. 
 

Two intersections will be temporarily closed during the event with detours in place for most vehicles.

Short-term road closures

  • 5:30AM to 03:00PM New England Highway at the Chalk Drive and Neil Street intersection, Toowoomba.
  • 5:30AM to 03:00PM – New England Highway at the Hume Street and Margaret Street intersection, Toowoomba.

Detour via Jellico and West Street, Toowoomba (Southbound):
Heavy vehicles up to 25m B-double travelling south through Toowoomba on the New England Highway will be detoured via West Street and Jellico Street. Ruthven Street will be inaccessible to heavy vehicles between 5:30AM and 03:00PM. Detour signage in place to guide motorists and there will be no access in the closure area
for heavy vehicles during this timeframe.

Detour via James and West Streets, Toowoomba (Northbound):
Heavy vehicles up to 25m B-double travelling north through Toowoomba on the New England Highway will be detoured via James Street and West Street back to Ruthven Street between 5:30AM and 3:00PM. Detour signage in place to guide motorists and there will be no access in the closure area for heavy vehicles during this timeframe.
