Queensland Ministerial Freight Council
The Department of Transport & Main Roads', Queensland Ministerial Freight Council (QMFC) was established as an advisory body under Ministerial direction, to facilitate communication and consultation between the road freight industry and the Department.
The QMFC focuses on the growing demands of the freight task and works towards achieving efficiencies through improved innovation, technology, policy development and managing the movement of freight in an approach that supports economic prosperity in a sustainable manner.
Membership of the QMFC is by personal invitation from the Minister. The Queensland Trucking Association Ltd is represented as a member on the Committee by Chief Executive Officer.
The objectives of the QMFC are to:
- Provide advice to the Minister on matters affecting the road freight industry
- Inform, liaise and collaborate across government agencies, industry groups, interested groups and other stakeholders on issues relating to heavy vehicle freight industry
- Promote efficient safe road freight operations and improved road asset protection
- Consider ways to improve the management of freight vehicle access, mass management, fatigue management, pilot and escort, dangerous goods and compliance and enforcement
- Consider ways to improve efficiency, innovation and technology development in road freight operation (for example, Intelligent Access Program, performance based standards and higher mass limits)
- Contribute to achieving an appropriate balance between regulation and free enterprise and provide a focal point for major issues affecting industry
