IRC INDUSTRY SKILLS FORECAST SURVEY

This is your opportunity to help identify the skills needs of your industry.

Australian Industry Standards are seeking industry input to assist the Industry Reference Committees (IRCs) that they support, to develop the important Industry Skills Forecasts.

On behalf of those IRCs, stakeholders are invited to provide feedback (by Monday, 14 January 2019) via the methods below:

IRC Industry Skills Forecast Survey:

This survey is designed to gather feedback from stakeholders about a range of issues affecting your industry. This information will be used to develop the industry outlook for each sector and identify any new or emerging skills.

The survey can be completed online and should take no more than 5-10 minutes.

The intelligence gathered during this process will assist IRCs to formulate their advice to the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) on industry priorities, skill shortages, and will inform future discussions about updates to Training Packages.

The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) has commissioned the review of one qualification in the TLI Transport and Logistics Training Package – TLI50316 Diploma of International Freight Forwarding.

The Freight Forwarding TAC has finalised draft Transport and Logistics Training Package materials for this project and would like your feedback.

Click here to view the draft qualifications, units of competency and to submit your feedback. Feedback is open for submission up to close of business Friday, 8 February 2019.

On 28th November 2018, the Government announced an Expert Review of the VET sector. The Review will focus on how the Australian Government’s investment in VET could be more effective to provide Australians with the skills they need to be successful throughout their working life. It will also focus on ensuring Australian businesses have the skills they need to support their business growth.
Submissions are invited to address all aspects of the Terms of Reference, including what is working well, the challenges that exist, and changes that could be made to the VET system.
Public submissions to the Review are now open, and will close on Friday 25 January 2019 at 11.59 pm AEST.

Jobs Queensland's Anticipating Future Skills project's final report is now available. It gives crucial information to business, employers, workers and communities about where jobs growth will be and what skills will be needed. Jobs Queensland has also produced a number of regional, industry and occupational tools for those wishing to explore the data in more detail. Click here to view the report and to access the tools.	The Australian Government's Department of Education and Training myskills website provides a portal for a range of VET resources, including career info and an industry-specific section that provides a list of popular occupations by sector. The information on the site is relevant for businesses and current and potential employees. Find out more here.	The Cross Sector Supply Chain Skills Project has been commissioned by the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC). Its goal is to develop a series of Skill Sets and Units of Competency for those supply chain skills common to a range of industry sectors and support the mobility of skilled labour and agility of the Australian workforce. Draft units of competency are now open for comment here - closes Monday 7 January 2019.

The Queensland Trucking Association has launched DIGIT&L FUTURES (Excel Skills), providing support for existing workers in the transport and logistics industry to learn or upskill in using Microsoft Excel. Different levels of courses are available and the training will be delivered across a number of Queensland TAFE locations. For more about the other training being offered over the next 12 months under the DIGIT&L FUTURES program, please click here.

VIEW COURSE LOCATIONS & REGISTER

This program is funded by the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training, the DIGIT&L FUTURES Program aims to support the existing transport and logistics workforce through minimising skill shortages, addressing the emerging skill needs of industry and fostering an environment of innovation.

To support Year 12 graduates into work, the Queensland Government offers free TAFE in high priority areas.
Eligible Year 12 graduates from 2018 or 2017 can kick-start their career by getting the skills employers want without the fees. Enrolments and training must start within the calendar year after leaving school.There are nearly 160 qualifications to choose from. Some qualifications are delivered on campus or as part of an apprenticeship or traineeship.

The Queensland Government has released the discussion paper Skills for Queensland for public consultation and feedback to inform a new Queensland VET strategy.
The VET sector is critical to ensuring Queenslanders have the right skills to work in priority jobs across a wide range of industries. Consultation closes 5.00pm, Friday 19 October 2018.

We are pleased to announce the continuation of our successful VET 4 T&L program, extended until March 2019.

Established since 2014 and funded by the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training; VET 4 T&L is an industry engagement program covering all sectors of industry – road transport, passenger transport, logistics, rail, aviation and maritime.

The project aims to raise awareness about vocational education and training opportunities available to industry. VET 4 T&L is also committed to providing feedback to the Queensland government about current and future skilling priorities as identified by industry.

AIS Industry Skills Forum

Australian Industry Standards (AIS) is hosting a series of Industry Skills Forums across the country to explore the current and future skills needs of the 11 industry sectors supported by AIS. The theme for the forums is digital transformation and "future skilling".

Kerry O’Brien will MC the upcoming AIS Industry Skills Forums to be held around the country. He will also moderate discussions by two panels of industry leaders at each forum. These will focus on the current and future skills challenges facing our industries.

The day will include industry-specific breakout sessions to provide you with an opportunity to have your say on the skills needed to ensure the workforce is ready for the challenges ahead.

Australian Industry Standards Updates

IRC Skills Forecasts 2018

The final 2018 IRC Skills Forecasts are now available for viewing. The IRC Skills Forecasts focus on the prioritisation of the skill needs of the industry sectors each IRC has responsibility for. They are developed and reviewed annually and submitted on behalf of the IRC to the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) for approval.

New Projects Approved

The Transport and Logistics IRC and the Rail IRC will have oversight of seven new projects approved by the Australian Industry and Skills Committee. Project updates will be available on the AIS Website.

Industry Skills Forums 2018

AIS is kicking off a series of industry skills forums across the country to explore current and future skill needs. The forums will provide the opportunity to directly shape the skills and workforce priorities for your industry. The forums will be held in each State and Territory, starting in early August. Details on when and where the events will take place will be communicated shortly.

VET 4 T&L are working with Jobs Queensland to identify future skill requirements for Queensland industry.

Planning for workforce capability and workforce sustainability has never been more important than now, where industry faces an unprecedented rate of change and disruption due to the rapid advances in technology. Understanding how technology will shape the future skills of industry is critical, so workforces can identify how drivers like automation, digital literacy and shifting skill sets will impact workforces across all industries.

The project; T&L Future Ready needs industry’s help to gain a clear insight into the challenges and opportunities they face for the future.

T&L Future Ready Project

The Queensland Trucking Association has been asked by Jobs Queensland to provide industry feedback on the training and skilling needs of our future workforce, looking 3-5 years ahead. We will be contacting operators and businesses across all sectors of the supply chain - Transport, Warehousing, Maritime, Aviation and Rail.

If you want to get involved, we are conducting 10-minute phone surveys. Click to register your interest.

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) wants to get a snapshot of the way industry currently manages their safety responsibilities. This baseline measurement will assist in informing decisions around the development of future education and guidance.

We’d like to invite you to contribute to this important initiative by telling us about your experience working in the heavy vehicle industry.

The survey is available now, and will remain open until Wednesday 9 May 2018.

Skills Development Workshops

AIS is holding a series of free workshops around the country in 2018. These workshops build on the highly successful AIS Skills Forum held last year. They are aimed at fostering a clearer understanding of the Training Package development process and how you can be involved. Workshops will be held in each state and territory, commencing mid-year. Training News

The Comparing high-use training package qualifications tool is a new form of research product produced by NCVER. A hybrid of a research report and a data slicer, it provides easy and intuitive access to the data while also providing additional insight and analysis not usually included in a statistics or data product.

Stakeholders are encouraged to respond to the discussion papers on unduly short courses and training product reform. For more information, click here.

A report has been commissioned by TWUSUPER which explores the transport industry now and into the future. The report has been developed by economists Jim Stanford and Matt Grudnoff, from The Centre for Future Work at the Australia Institute.

The report describes an $80 billion GDP (value-added) industry employing some 625,000 Australians and on the cusp of change. Some parts of the transport industry are more immune to change than others – so the report provides insights into the technology and overlay of social acceptance and policy that can shape the future.

Australian Industry Standards - IRC Project Updates

Nominations are open for the 2018 Queensland Training Awards. The Queensland Training Awards is the highest accolade for the VET Sector and celebrates the top achievers across the state.

If you have achieved success through training, or know of someone who has, share the success and nominate now by heading to the Queensland Training Awards website.

Nominations for the 2018 Queensland Training Awards have been extended, now closing on 16 March 2018.

Queensland Government's Back to Work Regional Employment Packages

Regional Employment package - for employers who hire an eligible jobseeker who has been unemployed for 52 weeks or more.
Youth Boost Payment - for employers who hire an eligible young jobseeker between 15-24 years of age.
Certificate 3 Guarantee Boost - provides eligible jobseekers with funding for training to help secure local jobs. Includes training for jobseekers or workers who already have a Certificate 3 or higher qualification, but need new or updated skills to gain, change or retain employment.
