2022 IWD Breakfast Event one of the best

It was a packed house this week at the QTA's 11th International Women's Day Event in Brisbane! Featuring a cracking line up of speakers, the morning was full of fun and connection amongst the 230+guests.

The morning started with MC Linda MacDonald (business2one) joining the stage to welcome Hon. Mark Bailey, Minister for Transport and Main Roads for the Acknowledgement of Country. Principal Event Sponsor representative Simon McCallum (Queensland Account Manager) then addressed the audience for the Official Welcome. Simon shared some startling statistics around the disparity in super balances between males and female and the importance of making superannuation a priority in your life financial planning.

With a full agenda, the morning got underway with our first speaker Annastasia Denigan (HSEQ Manager, QUBE Bulk) who shared her career journey starting down in Geelong where she took up her first job in transport and she hasn't looked back since. Annastasia is in some way a quiet achiever yet reaching amazing milestones in her career each year! A great example of how a person chose the industry and Annastasia is a shining light for any female wanting to enter this great industry.

Our next presenter, a four time Olympian and medallist shared her raw and authentic experiences as a women in elite sport, being a mum and as an elite athlete and the tough realisation that just because you are a success in one part of your career that you have to work twice as hard to achieve success in the next! Finding a career with Transurban is where she has hit her stride in her working career, now Managing the Emergency Response Unit.

We are grateful to all the businesses who donated raffle prizes which attracted a fund raising amount of over $5,500 which was donated to our charity of choice Serving our People. Serving Our People was established during the global pandemic in March 2020 is Australia’s fastest growing charity. With over 1000 SOP members, SOP assist with delivering much needed items and immediate support into the SEQ and Northern Rivers Shire. SOP was formed to serve and support those in need by delivering anything to anyone in need. This really resonated with the QTA. SOP wish to change the mindset of humanity globally by creating consciousness to do an act of service as part of one’s life routine. SOP are a self-funded charity with less than 1% government funding. Their main source of funding is through corporate partnerships and sponsorships, and private donors.

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Varenya Mohan-Ram (National Business Relationship Manager) TWUSUPER who always provides us with valuable insights and ways that we can all contribute towards creating change.

Thank you to our MC Linda MacDonald who filled Lisa Fraser's shoes for the event. Lisa is enduring her second breast cancer battle and was not able to join us on the day. Linda did a great job on the day and we thank her for stepping in.
