Bruce Highway (Ingham – Innisfail) Dallachy Road, install floodway project

This $18 million flood immunity project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments as part of the 15-year Bruce Highway Upgrade Program (BHUP) program of works to improve safety, flood resilience and capacity along the Bruce Highway from Brisbane to Cairns.

BMD Constructions has been contracted to carry out the works on behalf of TMR. The works will install additional drainage culverts between Dallachy Road to south of Dean Road.

Works will start in late July 2025 and will be carried out Monday to Saturday between 6am and 6pm.  Works are expected to be completed in mid-2026, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Traffic will be diverted to the old Bruce Highway to limit road users delays during the construction while these works are carried out

For the safety of road users and maintenance crews, changed traffic conditions will be in place including temporary speed limit reductions, and single lane operation under coordination of traffic controllers and/or traffic signals while the works are carried out.

Nearby properties may experience noise associated with the works, such as the sound of trucks, light machinery, and vibrations while the work is carried out. The contractor will take all reasonable and practicable actions to minimise impacts and any disruptions to property owners, as well as other stakeholders.

Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be in place on the approaches to the work site at Dallachy to ensure motorists are aware of the changed traffic conditions.

These works are part of the $9 billion Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program (BHTSP) that was announced in January 2025 and is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments on an 80:20 basis.

This $9 billion funding commitment is the single largest investment made to the Bruce Highway and targets reducing the severity and frequency of crashes impacting our communities and industry.

Early works to relocate a council watermain will start in August 2025 and be completed in late 2025. Telstra relocation works are also expected to be carried out later this year.

BMD Constructions has been contracted to carry out the construction of the Dean Road to Tully State High School Wide Centre Line Treatment project.

The work involves shoulder widening, wide centre line treatment, lighting and upgrade of the signalised Dean Road intersection.

The timing for the roadworks is planned from mid-2026 to be completed mid-2027, weather and construction conditions permitting. For further information visit www.tmr.qld.gov.au/brucehighway/programs
