Source: Department of Transport and Main Roads (22/07/2025)

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) would like to thank road users for their patience during the recent truck trial on the Captain Cook Highway. To collect additional data TMR will be conducting two more trials.

  • On Thursday 24 July 2025 - 9am to 2pm,  a 19 metre prime mover and semi-trailer accompanied by TMR vehicles.
  • On Tuesday 29 July 2025 - 9am to 2pm, a 23 metre B-double will be accompanied by TMR and pilot vehicles.

The vehicle convoys will travel between Mossman and Cairns.

TMR do not anticipate additional delays because of these trials.

We ask road users to remain patient during this process and urge drivers not to overtake the trial vehicles to ensure safety.

The trial results will be vital in shaping TMR's forward planning for projects and assist us in reviewing future traffic control measures and management of heavy vehicle movements.

TMR will review traffic control at active reconstruction sites to minimise delays as much as possible.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work to improve road safety and infrastructure.
