FNQ: Captain Cook Highway - Progress Works

Repairs have been completed to one-third of the geotechnical sites on the Captain Cook Highway.

Works are currently progressing on up to 20 sites simultaneously. 


Ellis Beach to south Wangetti

11 geotechnical sites from Ellis Beach to south Wangetti have been repaired. 

Ongoing works in this area include:

  • concrete pours, earthworks and drilling and grouting at debris flow barrier sites
  • clearing and scaling of slopes ahead of stabilisation works
  • pavement repairs to restore roads
  • hydromulching to revegetate stabilised slope
  • temporary benches have been constructed in the closed northbound lane to allow machinery to more efficiently reach upslope damage.

Turtle Creek Beach

18 geotechnical sites have been repaired all within two kilometres of Turtle Creek Beach.
Ongoing works in this area include:

  • slope stabilisation drilling and grouting of soil nails at the major downslope 650 metres north of Turtle Creek Beach 
  • pavement and resurfacing works and guardrail reinstated at the repaired downslope 600 metres north of the beach.
  • shotcreting at an upslope site about 550 metres south of the beach. 
  • clearing and scaling sites in preparation for more stabilisation works at moderate damage sites adjacent to the beach.

Traffic control 

  • Night works with extended delays have been rescheduled to begin from Monday 10 November 2025.
  • Night works are from 6pm to 6am Monday to Friday (finishing Saturday morning at 6 am).
  • There are no works on Saturday or Sunday night.
  • We ask road users to plan their journeys in advance as TMR anticipates delays of up to 30 minutes in some instances where extended holds are required at night works traffic control points. 
  • Traffic will be released at every safe and convenient opportunity to minimise delays where possible.
