FNQ: Upper Barron, Barron River (Crater) bridge, Kennedy Highway
Source: Department of Transport and Main Roads
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will be carrying out maintenance works on the Upper Barron, Barron River (Crater) bridge on the Kennedy Highway, near the Crater Road intersection and Mount Hypipamee National Park.
The works will involve replacement of structural components and are a part of TMR’s regular bridge rehabilitation program to ensure the continued safety and reliability of bridges on the state-controlled road network.
Crews will be onsite between 6am and 6pm from Monday 10 November 2025 to Sunday 30 November 2025. Timeframes may be subject to change depending on the program of works and weather conditions.
For the safety of road users and maintenance crews, changed traffic conditions will be in place including temporary speed limit reductions, and single lane operation under coordination of traffic controllers and/or traffic signals while the works are carried out. Single lane operation will remain in place outside of work hours to ensure ongoing road safety.
Nearby properties may experience noise associated with the works, such as the sound of trucks, light machinery, and vibrations while the work is carried out. The contractor will take all reasonable and practicable actions to minimise impacts and any disruptions to property owners, as well as other stakeholders.
Variable Message Signs (VMSs) will be in place on the approaches to the work site to ensure motorists are aware of the changed traffic conditions. Any changes in dates due, for instance, to poor weather, will be posted on the VMSs.
