Source: Department of Transport and Main Roads (22/07/2025)

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) advises that road pavement strengthening and sealing works will soon commence on a section of the Bruce Highway near the Alligator Creek Road intersection at Nome.

These works are being delivered as part of the $9 billion Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program (BHTSP) and are jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments.

Works will occur from:

6 am and 6 pm, Tuesday 29 July 2025 to Tuesday 27 August 2025

(All work is subject to construction progress and weather conditions. In the event of wet weather or unforeseen circumstances, activities will be rescheduled for the next available shift.)

Road users can expect the following changed traffic conditions during these works:

  • Single lane contraflow, managed under traffic signals with automated signals outside of construction hours
  • Delays of up to 15 minutes during construction hours
  • Speed restrictions of 80km/hr will be in place
  • Width restrictions of 3m or greater
  • Noise associated with the use of heavy machinery
  • Traffic controllers will be onsite during active construction hours to direct traffic
  • Advanced warning signs will also be in place on approach to the work area, notifying road users of the changed conditions

Wide load restrictions

Wide load restrictions will also be in place. Heavy vehicle operators with loads three meters wide or greater must contact the onsite supervisor on 0407 908 210 at least 24 hours prior to anticipated time of arrival to arrange for heavy equipment and other infrastructure to be cleared. Failure to give advance warning will result in delays to travel through the works area.
