NQ: Bruce Highway (Ayr to Townsville) - Hunter Street to Port Road
Source: Department of Transport & Main Roads
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) would like to advise that asphalt pavement maintenance works will soon commence on the Bruce Highway between Hunter Street and Port Road.
Works will occur from:
Sunday 9 November 2025 - Thursday 13 November 2025
Between the hours of 7pm and 5am
(All construction subject to weather conditions.)
What to expect during the works
While these works can sometimes cause delays for motorists, the changed traffic conditions at roadworks sites, such as reduced speed limits and lane closures, are essential for the safety of both roadworkers and motorists. Road users can expect the following changed traffic conditions during these works:
- Single lane closures and moderate delays
- The maximum delay to traffic shall be one (5) minute period, except for sealing works as determined in conjunction with the Superintendent, where the maximum delay to traffic shall be five (15) minutes
- Speed restrictions
- Noise associated with the use of heavy machinery
- Traffic controllers will be onsite during active construction hours to direct traffic
- Access to all properties is to remain open at all times
- Two-way traffic shall be maintained throughout the entire site, out of work hours
- Once maintenance works are completed motorists may notice traffic management signs still in place until all works including line marking, pavement markers and signs are reinstated
- Advanced warning signs will also be in place on approach to the work area, notifying road users of the changed conditions
Road users are asked to drive carefully through the roadwork zones, follow direction of traffic controllers and adhere to reduced speed limits. All work is subject to construction progress and weather conditions. In the event of wet weather or unforeseen circumstances, activities will be rescheduled for the next available shift.
For the safety of road users and maintenance crews, changed traffic conditions will be in place including temporary speed limit reductions and restricted access measures under the coordination of traffic controllers when required.
Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be in place on the approaches to the work site to ensure motorists are aware in advance of the changed traffic conditions.
The project team would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience and understand during these rehabilitation works.
