NQ: Bruce Highway - Ingham-Innisfail, Wide Centre Line Treatment
Source: Department of Transport and Main Roads
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will be carrying out the following projects on the Bruce Highway, Cowley.
Bruce Highway (Ingham – Innisfail) Aldridge Road to Poppi Road, Wide Centre Line Treatment project.
This project is part of the $300 million early start package announced in March 2025 for the new $9 billion Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program (BHTSP), jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments on an 80:20 basis.
The early start package provides the rapid response needed to address safety deficiencies at key locations to reduce the severity and frequency of crashes impacting our communities and industry. For further information please visit www.tmr.qld.gov.au/brucehighway/programs.
The project site extends from approximately 80 metres north of the Aldridge Road intersection to approximately 300 metres south of the Poppi Road intersection (total site length is approximately 1.2km).
The works include road and shoulder widening, the installation of wide centre line treatment, guardrail, vegetation removal, culvert extensions, culvert replacements, excavations to facilitate road widening and sight distance improvements, drainage and edge treatments as well as an upgrade of signs, guideposts and line marking.
Preliminary geotechnical works have commenced at the site, with the project expected to be completed in mid-2026, weather and construction conditions permitting. Works will be carried out from Monday to Saturday between 6am and 6pm.
For the safety of road users and maintenance crews, changed traffic conditions will be in place including temporary speed limit reductions, and single lane operation under coordination of traffic controllers and/or traffic signals while the works are carried out.
There may be times when access to properties directly adjacent to the works will be impacted. This may include temporary restrictions and access changes while the works are carried out adjacent to your property access. The contractor will contact you directly to confirm dates and times prior to any works taking place near your property.
Nearby properties may experience noise associated with the works, such as the sound of trucks, light machinery and vibrations while the work is carried out. The contractor will take all reasonable and practicable actions to minimise impacts and any disruptions to property owners, as well as other stakeholders.
During the final stages of works intermittent full closures of the road will be required. Road users can expect delays of up to 15-minute periods during the full closures. Road users should plan their journeys accordingly.
The Bruce Highway (Ingham-Innisfail) Cowley, Liverpool Creek to Aldridge Road Safety Improvements
The Bruce Highway (Ingham-Innisfail) Cowley, Liverpool Creek to Aldridge Road Safety Improvements project remains unfunded at this time.
Works to install guardrail in two locations between Cowley Creek and Cowley Beach roads will be carried out where Ergon power poles have been relocated for the safety of road users in the interim while options for funding are being investigated. The works will start in October 2025 and take about eight weeks to complete.
For the safety of road users and maintenance crews, changed traffic conditions will be in place including temporary speed limit reductions, and single lane operation under coordination of traffic controllers and/or traffic signals while the works are carried out.
Works will be carried out Monday to Friday between 6am and 6pm.
Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be in place on the approaches to both the work sites to ensure motorists are aware in advance of the changed traffic conditions.
