NQ: Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program - Notice of Traffic Count Survey

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) advises traffic count surveys will be undertaken on 105 intersections of the Bruce Highway between Innisfail and south of Townsville on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 July 2025 between 6am and 6pm.

The traffic count surveys are part of $9 billion of the Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program (BHTSP) that was announced in January 2025 and is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments on an 80:20 basis.

This $9 billion funding commitment is the single largest investment made to the Bruce Highway and targets reducing the severity and frequency of crashes impacting our communities and industry.

What to expect during the works

  • Intersections will be surveyed using video camera units
  • The surveys will not cause any traffic disruptions
  • Video camera units will be placed in strategic locations at each of the 105 intersections to record all vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian movements
  • The cameras will be installed between Sunday 13 to Tuesday 15 July 2025
  • The surveys will be carried out on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 July between 6am and 6pm.
  • The cameras will be removed between Thursday 17 and Friday 18 July 2025
  • The cameras do not store personal identification details, nor can they be used for enforcement.

Wet weather, contractor and site conditions may change the advertised work schedule.
