NQ: Bruce Highway (Townsville - Ingham) Grassos Road and Pappins Road, Helens Hill
Source: Department of Transport and Main Roads
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) would like to advise that road pavement rehabilitation and sealing works will soon commence on the Bruce Highway, Helens Hill between Grassos Road and Pappins Road. These rehabilitation works are essential to maintaining the state-controlled road network in a safe and trafficable condition.
Works will occur from:
Tuesday 21 October 2025 through to the end of November 2025
Between the hours of 6am and 6pm each day of construction
(Works will be conducted on a rotational roster of tend days on four days off. All construction subject to weather conditions.)
What to expect during the works
- While these works can sometimes cause delays for motorists, the changed traffic conditions at roadworks sites, such as reduced speed limits and lane closures, are essential for the safety of both roadworkers and motorists. Road users can expect the following changed traffic conditions during these works:
- Single land closures and width restrictions during construction
- Speed restrictions and moderate delays (up to 5 minutes)
- Noise associated with the use of heavy machinery
- Automated traffic lights outside of construction hours
- Once pavement works are completed motorists may notice traffic management signs still in place until all works including line marking, pavement markers and signs are reinstated
- Traffic controllers will be onsite during active construction hours to direct traffic
- Advanced warning signs will also be in place on approach to the work area, notifying road users of the changed conditions
Road users are asked to drive carefully through the roadwork zones, follow direction of traffic controllers and adhere to reduced speed limits. All work is subject to construction progress and weather conditions. In the event of wet weather or unforeseen circumstances, activities will be rescheduled for the next available shift.
Wide load restrictions
Wide load restrictions will also be in place. Heavy vehicle operators with loads 3.5 meters wide or greater must contact Leigh Egan on 0406 012 737 at least 24 hours prior to anticipated time of arrival to arrange for heavy equipment and other infrastructure to be cleared. Failure to give advance warning will result in delays to travel through the works area.
The project team would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience and understand during these rehabilitation works.
For the safety of road users and maintenance crews, changed traffic conditions will be in place including temporary speed limit reductions and restricted access measures under the coordination of traffic controllers near the Dean Road and Ramsay Road intersections when required.
Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be in place on the approaches to the work site to ensure motorists are aware in advance of the changed traffic conditions.
