NSW: Height clearance update: Sydney Marathon road closures

There has been a change to the height clearance of the temporary pedestrian bridge during the Macquarie Street closure. The height clearance has been changed from 5.2 metres to 4.6 metres.
The following road closures and detours will be in place in Sydney for the Sydney Marathon event on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 August.
Macquarie Street
Closures between Bridge and Bent streets for the installation and removal of a temporary pedestrian bridge will be in place on:
- Friday 22 August, 11pm to 7am: full closure
- Saturday 23 August, 11pm to 7am: one of two lanes closed in both directions
- Sunday 31 August, 6pm to 4am: full closure
- Monday 1 September, 10pm to 2am: northbound lane closures
When full closures are in place, motorists will be detoured via Bridge, Phillip and Bent streets. The temporary bridge will now have a height clearance of 4.6 metres.
Mini Marathon on Saturday 30 August
Roads in Sydney CBD will be closed at the following times and locations:
- 2am to 10am: sections of Macquarie Street between St James Road and the Opera House roundabout
- 5.30am to 9.30am: St Mary’s Road, Hospital Road and Shakespeare Place. Two-way access maintained to Hospital Road via Shakespeare Place.
- 5am to 10am: Macquarie and College streets from Bent to Park streets, and the Cahill Expressway on and off ramps to Macquarie Street.
There will be no access to Macquarie Street from the Cahill Expressway with motorists detoured via the Domain Tunnel (height clearance of 4.4 metres).
Over height vehicles travelling southbound should use the Grosvenor or York Street off ramps from the Sydney Harbour Bridge to access the city, while northbound vehicles should use the Clarence or Kent Street on-ramps to access the Harbour Bridge.

Marathon on Sunday 31 August
Major road closures will be in place at the following times and locations:
Sydney Harbour Bridge to Anzac Bridge
- 3am to 11am: Sydney Harbour Bridge and Western Distributor will be closed in both directions
- 3am to 11.30am: Cahill Expressway lanes 7 and 8 and the Circular Quay overpass
- 4am to 9.30am: Harris Street at Pyrmont.
Detours:
- citybound motorists from the Anzac Bridge will be detoured via the Bathurst Street off-ramp to join the Harbour Tunnel via the Cross City Tunnel
- B-Doubles should use Pennant Hills Road, James Ruse Drive, the M4, Centenary Drive, Roberts Road, Kings Georges Road and the M5. Noting a 4.4 metre height clearance in the General Holmes Drive tunnel
- Dangerous Goods and Oversize Overmass (OSOM) vehicles should use Princes Highway instead of the M5.
The Sydney Harbour Tunnel and Cross City Tunnel will remain open but is not to be used by OSOM vehicles or vehicles carrying dangerous goods.
Sydney CBD to South East
- 4am to 3pm: Park Street
- 4am to 3pm: Flinders Street from Oxford Street to Moore Park Road
- 4am to 3.30pm: Oxford Street from College Street to Moore Park Road
- 4am to 4pm: Macquarie Street from the Sydney Opera House to Hyde Park
- 5am to 1.30pm: Anzac Parade from Moore Park to Kingsford.
Detours:
- no east/west crossover available in the city’s north due to the Park Street closure. The Cross City Tunnel remains open for vehicles travelling east and west across the course however is not to be used by OSOM or vehicles carrying dangerous goods
- for travel between the city and south east, heavy vehicles should use Wenworth Avenue or Gardeners and Bunnerong roads to travel between the city east and south east.

Restricted access vehicles under permit cannot travel off their approved route on their permit. Please confirm the suitability of detour routes for your vehicle before travel.
