NSW Road Conditions: M1 Princes Motorway, Mount Ousley & Picton Road closures

Information from Transport for NSW, Freight Branch

For five consecutive Sunday nights from 20 August, the M1 Princes Motorway (Mount Ousley Road) will be closed due to critical natural disaster repair work.

During the July 2022 rainfall events, landslip movement on Mount Ousley caused damage to the southbound road shoulder, which resulted in one of three lanes remaining closed for 200 metres. Following slope repairs, attention now moves to rebuilding the damaged road surface at this location.

For the safety of workers and motorists, this work will need to be carried out under multiple full southbound closures. The closures remove the risk associated with working adjacent to live traffic and, the risk of out-of-control heavy vehicles. It also allows more freedom of movement for the large number of construction vehicles required.

Closure details

To minimise the impact to traffic, the work has been scheduled to take advantage of two upcoming planned full maintenance closures (both directions) of Mount Ousley in August and September 2023.

Planned full maintenance closures

Sunday 27 August - Mt Ousley / Picton Rd closure, both directions

Sunday 10th September – Mt Ousley / Picton Rd closure, both directions

Additional southbound Mt Ousley and Eastbound Picton Rd closures

Sunday 20 August – Mt Ousley southbound and a one-kilometre section of the northbound left-hand shoulder lane after New Mount Pleasant Road / Picton Rd eastbound closure

Sunday 3 September – Mt Ousley southbound / Picton Rd eastbound closure

Sunday 17 September - Mt Ousley southbound / Picton Rd eastbound closure

Closure times

M1 Mount Ousley Road between Bulli Tops and Memorial Drive – 8pm Sunday to 4am Monday

Picton Rd between Almond St, Wilton and M1 Princes Motorway – 7:30pm Sunday to 4am Monday

Detour routes (oversize and overmass vehicles (OSOM) included)

A detour will be in place via Bulli Pass. However, this detour is not suitable for any OSOM vehicle or any vehicle exceeding 19 metres. Vehicles of this length are advised to delay their journey.

Any vehicle not suitable for the detour arriving on site will be requested to park until the road reopens.
