NSW: Upgrade for Mundoonan Rest Area on the Hume Highway

Transport for NSW will be upgrading the northbound Mundoonan rest area on the Hume Highway at Jerrawa from Tuesday 5 August to improve safety and well being for heavy vehicle drivers.

Work will be carried out for three months between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday and on Saturdays between 8am and 1pm. Access to the rest area during construction will be limited to heavy vehicles up to 30 metres long and 4.5 metres wide. Restricted access heavy vehicles larger than this should use one of the alternative northbound rest areas listed below.

Temporary rest area closures during work

The lower level of the rest area will be closed for the whole duration of this work. The upper-level rest area will be split and used for both light and heavy vehicle parking during this time. 

To complete this work safely, a full closure of the rest area will also be required on the following dates:

• Monday 11 August 
• Monday 20 October to Saturday 25 October

Alternative northbound heavy vehicle rest areas are available at:

• Reardons Road stopping bay - 6km south (approx. 5 mins) - temporary toilet facilities will be provided.
• Manton Ridge rest area - 9km south (approx. 7 mins)
• Yass Service Centre (sevices available) - 23km south (approx. 18 mins)
• Windmills rest area - 33km north (approx. 20 mins)
• Mystery Boulders rest area - 45km north (approx. 27 mins) 
• Goulburn South (services available) - 61km north (approx. 37 mins)

What work are we doing?

Work will include building new footpaths and fencing, road widening, vegetation removal and upgrades to drainage, pavement and kerbs.

This work will create new parking areas that can accommodate 11 B-doubles as well as space for larger heavy vehicles.

As part of this work there will be a permanent speed change and road access changes to further improve safety at the rest area for road users.

From Monday 28 July, access to the rest area from Sheldricks Lane will be permanently restricted. All access to the rest area must be from the dedicated Hume Highway exit.

Operators of Class 1, 2 & 3 vehicles travelling under a Permit must not travel off the approved route listed in the permit unless an updated permit is obtained from the NHVR.
