Road Conditions Alert-FNQ-Restricted Access for OSOM Vehicles

Advice from TMR Heavy Vehicles Unit 20/12/2023

Most state-controlled roads in Far North Queensland are affected by flooding and landslides, caused by ex-tropical cyclone Jasper.

TMR is carrying out inspections and repairs to re-open roads for light vehicles and 'as of right' heavy vehicles as soon as it is safe to do so.

During this period, oversize overmass (OSOM) vehicle movements on all state-controlled roads within the Far North District are not permitted, unless directly assisting with flood recovery activities.

OSOM restrictions will be effective immediately for OSOM vehicle movements and are expected to end at 11:59pm on 7 January 2024.

OSOM movements associated with disaster recovery activities will be permitted on some roads under special circumstances. OSOM operators will be required to apply for a permit through the NHVR Portal and provide supporting evidence of direct flood recovery support contracted through a Queensland Government agency.

Operators activated for disaster recovery activities, please follow the below steps to gain an exemption permit via the NHVR portal.
