SEQ: Planning for Bruce Highway upgrades between Anzac Avenue and Caboolture-Bribie Island Road

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has progressed planning for future road upgrades along the Bruce Highway between Anzac Avenue, North Lakes and Caboolture-Bribie Island Road, Caboolture. This planning has been underway since 2023 and a preferred option has been identified.
Key features of the preferred option include:
- using the existing median to add an extra northbound and southbound lane between Anzac Avenue and Uhlmann Road, increasing lanes from three to four in each direction
- constructing multi-lane, one-way collector-distributor roads on both sides of the existing Bruce Highway between Uhlmann Road and Caboolture-Bribie Island Road to improve capacity and reliability and reduce weaving.
It is proposed that collector-distributor roads are built parallel and separate to the main highway carriageways – collecting local traffic and distributing it to the road network between interchanges. They will enhance highway operation by providing additional capacity, removing traffic undertaking local or short distance trips from the highway and improving safety by reducing the number of times motorists need to merge or weave through highway traffic.

TMR has contacted some landowners in the area to provide advance notice where future, long-term upgrades will require additional space to accommodate extra lanes. The project team is meeting with affected landowners to discuss their property in relation to the project.
The proposed upgrades are designed to improve travel-time reliability, traffic flow and safety on the Bruce Highway.
This project is in the business case (planning) phase. Additional funding is committed to progress detailed design and construction of the upgrades between Anzac Avenue and Uhlmann Road. Total funding requirements will be confirmed when a construction contract is awarded. Timeframes for the sections between Uhlmann Road and Caboolture-Bribie Road will depend on further planning, approvals, and future funding commitments.
