SWQ: Morven | Warrego Highway | Queensland Rail Crossing Works
Source: Department of Transport and Main Roads - Heavy Vehicles Unit
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) would like to let you know that through to 30 September 2025 (weather permitting) we are completing works on the Queensland Rail crossings at both the east and west sides of the Warrego Highway within the Morven township area.
Restrictions are in place to provide TMR's contractor, RoadTek, an increased safe working environment to continue maintenance on the Queensland Rail crossing.
All vehicle combinations with a ground contact wider than 3.0m and/or loaded width greater than 3.5m are not permitted to travel through the site. Vehicles that do not comply with these conditions will be redirected to turn around.
Alternative Route
Eligible vehicles can access the alternate route via the Leichhardt Highway and Capricorn Highway (outlined in map below), provided a copy of the approved variation letter is used in conjunction with your current permit.
If you do not have a current permit you are required to apply via the NHVR GO for the alternative route.
Vehicles exceeding the mass envelopes contained within the variation letter must apply for a permit through the NHVR Portal for further assessment.
The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) in consultation with the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) have developed an interim process for industry to access the alternate route while restrictions remain in place on the Warrego Highway, Morven.
New/Amend permit applications using Warrego Highway Morven
The NHVR will process your application to consent for TMR consideration. While restrictions remain in place TMR will be providing industry the option of an alternate route on new and amend applications if the vehicle combinations is not suitable for travel on the Warrego Highway, Morven.
TMR will send through an information request with an alternate route via the NHVR Portal. The customer will need to review the route to ensure it meets their freight task. Once accepted the NHVR will process the application with the agreed alternate route and seek TMR road manager consent.
Renewal permit applications using Warrego Highway Morven
There will be no change to existing permits which have been previously granted access as eligible vehicles may utilise the variation letter for access to the alternative route in conjunction with their current approved permit.
Current permit applications using Warrego Highway Morven
There will be no change to existing permits which have been previously granted access as eligible vehicles may utilise the variation letter for access to the alternative route in conjunction with their current approved permit.
In addition, industry is advised to check the TMR 'Conditions of Operation Database' to make sure you are using up-to-date information when you are assessing the suitability of your route.
