SWQ - Roma - Injune - Major Culvert Upgrades
Source: Department of Transport and Main Roads
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will be starting early works to upgrade three culverts on the Carnarvon Highway (Injune - Rolleston), between 6km to 6.3km north of Roma from 1 September 2025.
Work will include:
- Constructing a side-track around the eastern side of the culverts.
- Replacing the existing culverts at 6km, 6.2km and 6.3km with larger structures.
- Widening the highway to 10 metres.
Works will be carried out between 6am and 6pm up to ten days a fortnight and are expected to be completed in late December 2026, weather and conditions permitting. Traffic control and speed reductions will also be in place for the safety of all road users. Motorists should slow down, drive carefully, and follow the instructions of traffic controllers and construction signage and allow up to an additional 15 minutes, for their journey.
Following completion of the side-track, the Carnarvon Highway at this location will be closed to enable works on the culverts to take place. The side-track will be usable by most vehicles, however, restrictions will be in place for wide-load vehicles and permit holders are encouraged to check the TMR Conditions of Operation Database before travelling.
We will try to minimise traffic delays as much as possible by using single lane closures, traffic control and speed restrictions. Motorists should slow down, drive carefully and follow the instructions of traffic controllers and construction signage and allow up to an additional 15 minutes, for their journey.
