Temporary 10 tonne mass limit for Kin Kin Road – Reduced section
Information from Department of Transport & Main Roads
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) advises the temporary 10 tonne mass limit (both Gross Vehicle Mass and Gross Combination Mass) will be amended to apply to a shorter section of Kin Kin Road from Monday 24 October 2022.
Improved weather conditions, combined with site investigations and inspecations have determined sections where the load limit can be lifted.
The temporary restriction now only applies on Kin Kin Road from the Kin Kin township to Greenridge Pinbarren Road (Cooran turnoff).
Motorists must adhere to signs in place on the road, as they are being updated and relocated based on current restrictions.
TMR is lifting the mass limit in a staged approach on sections of Kin Kin Road as soon as possible. TMR's decision to implement the temporary mass limit was not taken lightly and is a short-term measure only. We thank people for their patience and understanding, as we know it has impacts on local businesses and community services.
The mass limit is applied under Section 46 of the Transport Infrastructure Act 1994. The maximum penalty for breaching these restrictions is 200 penalty units, which equates to $27,570. This is enforceable by TMR's Transport Inspectors who are operating on Kin Kin Road. The mass limit only applies to the specified section of Kin Kin Road. TMR enforcement does not apply to other roads on the local network.
TMR's maintenance contractor will commence pavement repairs on Tuesday 25 October 2022, and will continue to monitor Kin Kin Road and undertake maintenance as required, subject to weather and scheduling, as part of routine operations. Periods of heavy rain mean potholes and defects can form quickly, and unfortunately repairs sometimes do not hold if there is continued wet weather.
We urge all road users to drive safely to the prevailing conditions. Motorists are also encouraged to report hazards, such as potholes, on state-controlled roads by calling 13 19 40 for priority action.
