VIC: Melbourne's Wurundjeri Way extension opening Monday 27 October

Source: Transurban

The new Wurundjeri Way extension city bypass, delivered as part of the West Gate Tunnel Project, will open on Monday 27 October – providing additional route options around Melbourne's city centre.

The new road connects Dynon Road in West Melbourne to Wurundjeri Way in the Docklands, providing greater connectivity for those looking to travel between the inner west, inner north, city and southeast suburbs. It involves a new bridge over Dudley Street and a 1.5 kilometre, four lane connection to Dynon Road.

From 27 October, drivers will have the following route options:

  • Heading to the city:

    • On Dynon Road heading towards the city, use the left slip lane to get to the new Wurundjeri Way extension.

    • Continue southbound and merge onto Wurundjeri Way, near Marvel Stadium, to get to Docklands and travel onto the southeast suburbs.

  • Heading from Wurundjeri Way to Dynon Road:

    • On Wurundjeri Way, head northbound towards Dudley Street.

    • Enter the right slip lane onto the new Wurundjeri Way extension.

    • Exit on Dynon Road.

The full benefits of the extension will be realised later this year when the West Gate Tunnel Project opens the new tunnels under Yarraville, the elevated road above Footscray Road, and the new ramps between the West Gate Freeway and Hyde Street – offering drivers improved connections to the Port of Melbourne and the industrial facilities of the inner west.
