Message from CEO

Although we wake this morning to clearer skies, the damage that has occurred from the huge deluge of rain is no doubt heartbreaking for many. To those of you who have suffered damage to either your business and/or your homes, our thoughts are with you, and please do not hesitate to reach out if you need any type of assistance at all.

In addition to flood damage, so many of you are no doubt concerned about your drivers who are out on the roads in these awful conditions. It is recommended to remind drivers to take extra drinking water and food supplies in the event they experience unplanned delays.

As the rain moves south, the Northern NSW is now being impacted. The M1 Pacific Motorway is now closed in both directions from Cudgera Creek to Tweed Heads South due to flooding between Cudgera Creek Road and Minjungbal Drive. There is no detour currently available for heavy vehicles and heavy traffic is building in both directions. We understand that TfNSW are working with local councils for alternative access.

We are aware that some alternative routes have been found to keep freight moving and understand there is growing frustration with information or lack of information on road closures. We are providing every assistance we can to members who need help in relation to road access. Please call me if you need further support in relation to road closure.

Although we have not received any verified information, the Bruce Highway is likely to remain closed for several more days so when planning routes, contingency plans will need to be made to bypass this route.

Please remain patient as it may be several more days before roads are able to re-open and some roads will require extensive restoration to become operational. Please reinforce safety messaging with your drivers - If it's flooded, forget it. We want everyone to remain safe.

Our staff are available at any time to assist you so please don't hesitate to call. Ezra is currently performing SES duties and will return your calls and emails as soon as he can.

Once again, this industry continues to show its resilience in adverse times and will be the driving force behind rebuilding communities that have been impacted by this extreme weather event.

Stay safe

Gary
