QTA Annual General Meeting - 12 April 2022

Members and guests are hereby advised that the forty-sixth Annual General Meeting of the Queensland Trucking Association will take place Online via Zoom on Tuesday, 12 April 2022 from 5:00pm to approximately 6:30pm.

Nominations are called for the Board of Directors of the QTA for the 2022 year.  To nominate for the QTA Board of Directors for the 2022 year, please DOWNLOAD a copy of the full Notice of Meeting and return the completed form no later than Tuesday, 5 April 2022.

Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd Appoint New CEO

Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) recently announced the appointment of Mr Neil Stephens as the new Chief Executive Officer for Port of Brisbane.

Mr Stephens has led the Port over the last eight months as Interim CEO while continuing in his capacity as Chief Financial Officer.  PBPL have been impressed with Neil’s leadership as Interim CEO with the strong support of the Port’s Executive Leadership Team, during what has been a challenging period for our industry and the Australian and global economy as a whole.

PBPL believe that Neil is the right person to lead the organisation moving forward and are excited to see PBPL deliver on its long-term vision to be Australia’s premier port and logistics hub.

PBPL CEO, Neil Stephens, said it was a great privilege to lead the Port of Brisbane and is excited to continue working with the team, customers, stakeholders and shareholders to grow value for the entire port community.

 

The QTA congratulates Neil on his appointment and looks forward to continuing the long standing working partnership we have with PBPL.

Port of Brisbane - interruption to traffic (21-24 March)

There will be over dimensional movements of cargo on Whimbrel St between the exit from the car flyover and the rail balloon loop from Monday 21 March 2022 to Thursday 24 March 2022.

Wind Farm blades and other equipment will be transported from AAT over the car flyover and onto Whimbrel St, through the Sandpiper St roundabout to a Qube facility adjacent to the rail balloon loop.   

There will be stop-go lane closures on Whimbrel St and traffic control will be in place to control movement along Whimbrel St. We ask drivers to comply with and respect all traffic management controls. 

When:  Monday, 21 March 2022 to Thursday 24 March, 24 hours.
Where: From the car flyover exit on Whimbrel St to the Qube facility adjacent to the rail balloon loop.

What to expect

  • Reduced speed limit from 60km to 40km/hour
  • Stop go lane closures on Whimbrel St, both directions
  • Expect 5 minute to 10 minute delays, longer for wind farm blades
  • Please follow the traffic management controls.

Increased cyber threats with Ukraine conflict

Australian organisations are strongly urged to adopt an enhanced cyber security position in the heightened threat environment presented by the Russian and Ukraine conflict. 

The escalating conflict between Russia and Ukraine has raised concerns for the potential for cyber attacks that may impact global organisations well beyond the geographic boundaries of Eastern Europe.


It was widely reported over the last weeks that Russia launched cyber attacks against several Ukrainian financial services businesses, government websites and media outlets.

Safe Work and Return to Work Awards - Entries Now Open

WQ: Width Restrictions - Landsborough Highway (Gilliat River Bridge and McKinlay River Bridge)

During March 2022 weather permitting, temporary width restrictions will be in place for the Gilliat River Bridge and McKinlay River Bridge along the Landsborough Highway between Kynuna and Cloncurry. Planned asphalt replacement works will be undertaken to improve road safety.

Gilliat River Bridge
From 6am to 6pm Monday 21 March 2022 to Saturday 26 March 2022, temporary width restrictions will be in place at Gilliat River Bridge.  Vehicles with a ground contact width or load width exceeding 3.5m will be restricted during the construction period. 

Vehicles with loads exceeding 3.5m wide:

  • will only be permitted at daylight hours between 6am and 6pm with prior arrangement
  • must contact Bhushan Chamakale 48 hours before arrival at site on 0437 421 736.

McKinlay River Bridge
From 6am to 6pm Monday 28 March 2022 to Saturday 02 April 2022, temporary width restrictions will be in place at McKinlay River Bridge.  Vehicles with a ground contact width or load width exceeding 3.5m will be restricted during the construction period. 

Vehicles with loads exceeding 3.5m wide:

  • will only be permitted at daylight hours between 6am and 6pm with prior arrangement
  • must contact Bhushan Chamakale 48 hours before arrival at site on 0437 421 736.

Failure to comply may result in delays to your journey.

Works will involve single lane traffic operation under traffic controllers/traffic lights and a reduction in speed (40km/hr).

 

It is your responsibility to make sure you're using up-to-date information when you assess the suitability of your route.
You must check the Conditions of Operation Database before you start your journey.  Visit the QLDTraffic website, download the app or call 13 19 40 to report an incident or get real-time traffic reports.

SWQ: Carnarvon Highway - Pull Over Area​ (Roma - Injune)

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is expecting to start work to widen the right hand shoulder of the Carnarvon Highway (Roma - Injune) between Lovell and Miscamble Streets from 24 March 2022  to provide a safe pull over area.

Works will be undertaken during daylight hours, Monday to Friday, and are expected to be completed early April 2022, weather and conditions permitting.

Works may restrict wide-load vehicle access and permit holders should check the TMR Conditions of Operation Database before travelling.

SWQ: Cambooya - Emu Creek Bridge Load Limit, Toowoomba-Karara Road

Effective immediately the Emu Creek bridge on Toowoomba-Karara Road is restricted to one lane at 50km/h for vehicles weighing less than 5 tonnes.

The 5 tonne load limit has been introduced due to safety concerns following extensive damage to the bridge foundations during recent significant rainfall, undermining the load capacity of the bridge.

The load limit will apply until the foundations of the bridge have been reinforced and the abutments repaired, with repairs being carried out as soon as possible. For up-to-date information on road closures around the state, visit the QLDTraffic website or call 13 19 40.

Signage is installed on Toowoomba-Karara Road north of Felton and south of Cambooya, and on the New England and Cunningham highways, warning heavy vehicles of the 5 tonne load limit and urging drivers to find alternative routes.

Bridge and Culvert Restrictions updated​

As part of the TMR's ongoing commitment to providing a safe and efficient transport network with continuity of access, their engineers are continuously monitoring, assessing and reviewing structures throughout the state. 

 

As a result, there have been changes to the category 1 (IAP) and category 2 (IAP) bridge and culvert restrictions.

NSW - Sandy Creek Bridge Closure, 19 March 2022

Changed traffic conditions will occur Saturday 19 March on Summerland Way to carry out urgent repair work at Sandy Creek Bridge between Sandy Creek and Coombell roads, about 20 kilometres south of Casino. 

 

Sandy Creek Bridge will be closed to all traffic from 6pm Saturday 19 March to 6am Sunday 20 March, weather permitting. 

 

Heavy vehicles can detour via the Pacific Motorway between Grafton and Casino.
