ASCI2021: SUPPLY CHAIN VISION IN THE DECADE FOR ACTION

The United Nations’ “Decade for Action” calls for accelerating sustainable solutions to all the world’s biggest challenges ranging from poverty and gender to climate change, inequality and closing the finance gap. Our global supply chains are not immune to these challenges and have their own set of sensitivities to global political, economic, geographic and social climates.

In its third year as the largest gathering of supply chain managers in Australia, ASCI2021 will provide clarity around what is expected of supply chain managers and what the priorities are to act and lead a future-proof global supply chain into the new decade.

The conference will take place on 23-24 February 2021 at the William Inglis hotel in Sydney with the ASCI2021 Awards to be held on the evening of Tuesday 23 February 2021.

    AVETRA 2021

AVETRA is Australasia's only national, independent association of researchers in vocational education and training (VET).

In April 2021 AVETRA will be holding a multi-day conference with speakers and sessions drawn from researchers, practitioners and policymakers across Australia and internationally. The conference theme is Recover, rethink and rebuild: All eyes on VET.

The call for abstract submissions is now open, closing 5 March 2021. Submissions are being invited addressing the following themes:

VET road to recovery - Examining VET reform, VET’s role and relevance in economic and social recovery during times of local, national and/or international turmoil caused by disasters such as (for example), disease, famine, natural disasters and war.

Practice and Pedagogy - Examining VET pedagogy, curriculum and partnerships, qualifications, industry collaborations and innovations in practice, including applied research undertaken by VET practitioners and institutional leaders.

Equity and Diversity - Examining equity and diversity in a VET context, including its role in improving social and economic equity and diversity outcomes.

Research - Research that sits outside the above themes but is still aligned with the conference theme. It could include research on VET itself and papers that draw on big data (e.g. AVETMISS, NCVER Collections, ABS, HILDA, LSAY, OECD) to illuminate patterns and trends in Australian VET and international TVET systems.

Where VET fits - Examining VET’s place within society and economies.  Topics may, for example, examine pathways and transitions between sectors and learning contexts, including transitions from VET to work, from school to VET and school to work, and from VET to higher education and higher education to VET. This would include papers on the status of VET.

The conference will be held 19-23 April 2021 and will be fully online.

    Rail R U OK Day

The next Rail R U OK? Day will be on 29 April 2021. This industry-wide event reaches over 70,000 rail employees each year.

Regular, meaningful conversations can make a difference to our workmates. That’s why the TrackSAFE Foundation and R U OK? team up every year to deliver Rail R U OK?Day in April to encourage genuine conversations between staff.

We all go through life’s challenges. Grief, relationship breakdowns, tough times at work or home. But when our relationships are strong, we can spot the signs that someone may be struggling and reach out with a simple question, “Are you OK?”

TrackSAFE and R U OK? develop a range of tools to help participating organisations launch their very own Rail R U OK? Day events. Find out more by visiting the Event Planning Resource page.

    Driving Better Health

The Driving Heart Health Project will:

Increase driver health awareness - Addressing driver health produces many benefits such as improved safety performance, increased productivity, reduced absenteeism and worker retention. Educating drivers on positive behaviours for their health and the link to chronic illness contributes to behavioural change.

Provide driver health assessments - Implementing health and wellness strategies that focus on improving health risks will lead to increased productivity and better workplace health and safety performance.

Promote the ability to replicate the project delivery model – Similar health assessments able to be delivered across other states and jurisdictions and sharing the project outcomes will further highlight the need for programs to address this critical issue in the transport industry.

The Heart Health Convoy will visit 12 locations and provide up to 400 health assessments. The project relies on a mobile clinic providing health assessments, which will address key conditions including:

    • Nutrition
    • Movement and Fitness
    • Psychological Health
    • Sleep
    • Alcohol and Smoking
    • Social Health
    • Blood pressure
    • Body composition
    • Respiratory function
    • Metabolic risks (diabetes, liver function, lipid profile and kidney function)

Clinics will be held at a transport depot in the Brisbane area in May and September 2021 (locations and dates to be confirmed).

    Megatrans 2021

In 2020, COVID-19 brought challenges and disruption, not least of all to the global and domestic supply chain. While whole industries were shut down and businesses were forced to pivot their model of operation, the supply chain was presented with not just challenges but opportunities. Businesses had to reimagine the way they met supply demand and customer expectations, and in a safe way.

MEGATRANS2021 is perfectly timed to be the leading platform for industry to once again come together in this reimagining of the supply chain. As one of the first trade expos in the post-COVID recovery phase, MEGATRANS will be essential in re-establishing face-to-face relationships, connecting people to people and business to business, while showcasing solutions that will help the supply chain adapt to situations such as COVID in the future.

MEGATRANS returns in 2021 as an important industry event, facilitating cross-industry collaboration in a multidimensional and integrated conference and exhibition for the freight and logistics industry.

For the first time, MEGATRANS will take place in conjunction with the specialised bulk handling expo, Australian Bulk Handling Expo 2021. The two events will be held side-by-side, with one ticket entry into both exhibitions.

MEGATRANS will showcase the latest in artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, automated racking, telematics and route optimisation, warehouse automation, intelligent fleet systems, blockchain, Internet of Things, big data and advanced analytics.

The event will take place from 8-10 September 2021 at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre, VIC.
