NSW-Upgraded rest areas improving facilities for heavy vehicle drivers on the Silver City Highway

Two roadside rest areas have received major upgrades on the Silver City Highway to better support safety, wellbeing and fatigue management of heavy vehicle drivers.

Work is now complete on two rest area upgrades between Curlwaa and Broken Hill in the state’s far South-West, which provide access for heavy and light vehicles travelling in both directions:

·         Curlwaa Rest Area - four kilometres west of Wentworth

·         Seven Trees Rest Area - 82 kilometres north of Wentworth

The upgrades feature:

·         Two new flushing toilets at each rest area, complete with disabled access, replacing the single waterless composting toilets.

·         New shaded picnic shelters.

·         Solar-powered lighting for the toilet block and surrounds to improve safety for all users.

Transport has carried out the upgrades at Curlwaa and Seven Trees rest areas with $850,000 in funding through the Heavy Vehicle Rest Stop Improvement Program. The rest areas remained open during construction.
