FNQ-Safety upgrades Kennedy Highway

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will resume works on the Kennedy Highway between Kuranda and Mareeba. The works will complete a $45 million package of critical safety upgrades on the Kennedy Highway.

In late August 2022 works will start between Malone Road and Mareeba Connection Road. The works include the installation of wide centre line treatment, shoulder widening and an upgrade of the Barron River bridge rest area. The works will be carried out Monday to Saturday, between 7 am and 6 pm. The project is expected to be completed in March 2023, weather and construction conditions permitting.

For the safety of workers and road users, changed traffic conditions will be in place until works are complete, including temporary speed limit reductions and single lane closures. Road users should expect minor delays and plan their journeys accordingly.

Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be in place on the approaches to the work site to ensure motorists are aware of the changed traffic conditions. Changes in dates due to poor weather will be posted on the VMS.
