Labour's ER Commitments and what they could mean for you

Following the election of a new federal government, we face changing priorities in our national Employment Relations framework.

The ALP’s platform leading into the election saw commitments to increasing minimum wage to match inflation, redefining casual employment and giving the Fair Work Commission the power to address “employee-like” work. They are seeking to adopt all recommendations of the Respect@Work Report, which would require all employers to actively prevent sexual harassment in their workplaces to meet their duty to employees. Similarly they would seek to reverse the onus of proof in Workplace Health and Safety matters, requiring employers to demonstrate how they took reasonably practicable measures to prevent a WHS offence occurring.

In light of the above, all QTA members are invited to attend the Second Quarter QTA ER Road Freight Industry Focus Group, where we will discuss all of the proposed employment relations changes we are likely to see over the new Government’s term in office.

Discussion will cover the following platform positions:

• Increasing Minimum wage inline with inflation
• “Rebalancing" FWC appointments
• Addressing "employee-like" work
• Redefining casual employment
• Reform Labour Hire schemes
• Criminalising Wage Theft
• Limiting rolling maximum-term contracts
• Addressing workplace sexual harassment and the Respect@Work Report
• Legislating 10 days’ paid family and domestic violence leave
• Addressing the gender pay gap
• Reversing the onus of proof in WHS matter
• Allowing workers to pursue employers directly for unpaid super

This will be an important discussion for any members with employees, so if you cannot attend or someone else may be suitable, please pass this invitation to them
