Far North Queensland job seekers and people new to transport and logistics can access a fully funded training package valued at around $10,000 through the Queensland Trucking Association’s Driving Cairns’ Future project, with limited places now available for the intake commencing 31 August 2026.

The 10-day program combines practical, industry-relevant training, licensing support and direct connections with employers to create a clearer pathway into jobs across transport, warehousing and logistics.

Each participant’s fully funded package includes five Certificate III-level units of competency, funded HR truck driving lessons or forklift training, and the cost of the relevant licence test.

Participants will also be connected directly with industry and employers, helping them understand the jobs available and strengthening their prospects of moving into employment after training.

Queensland Trucking Association Chief Executive Officer Gary Mahon said the program was designed to tackle workforce shortages while removing practical barriers for people wanting to enter the sector.

“At around $10,000 in value per participant, this is substantial practical support for someone who wants to start a career in transport and logistics,” Mr Mahon said.

“The program removes some of the biggest upfront barriers by funding the training, practical lessons and licence test, while also connecting participants directly with employers who need skilled people.”

“We hear consistently from transport and logistics operators that they need workers. Driving Cairns’ Future is about matching that demand with local people who are ready for an opportunity and giving them job-relevant skills that industry is looking for.”

“A strong transport and logistics workforce is critical to the wider Far North Queensland economy. Far North Queensland produces high-quality agricultural products, but the job is not finished at the farm gate. Transport and logistics connects our producers with customers and markets across Queensland and Australia, and we need skilled people to keep that supply chain moving.”

Driving Cairns’ Future demonstrates how government and industry can work together to improve workforce participation, strengthen regional industries and create long-term employment pathways for Queenslanders.

The project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government through its Growing Workforce Participation Fund. Places are limited. Applications are now open for the course commencing 31 August 2026.
