The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) advises they will soon be commencing strengthening works on Tommy Creek Bridge on the Burke Developmental Road.
Crews will be onsite between 6am and 6pm from 14 July 2026, with works expected to be completed by late August 2026, weather and construction conditions permitting.
TMR advises they will be carrying out works on the Tommy Creek bridge to prop the bridge headstock.
These works involve excavating the ground, constructing a concrete base, and installing temporary supports to strengthen the bridge.
This will improve the bridge’s structural stability and enable safer access for road users, including a return to previous loading conditions for certain restricted Oversize Overmass (OSOM) movements.
TMR will provide a further update following completion of the works, including advice on access for currently restricted OSOM vehicles.
For the safety of road users and work crews, changed traffic conditions will be in place, including reduced speed limits and traffic control supporting single-lane operation during the works.
Intermittent full closures of the bridge will be required at times to carry out the works. Road users can expect delays of up to 15-minute periods during the full closures and users should plan their journeys accordingly.
Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be installed on approaches to the site to advise motorists of these conditions. Any changes to the work schedule due to weather will be communicated via the VMS.
