CWNW: Tommy Creek Bridge Restriction, Burke Developmental Road

Road Conditions (28 May, 2026)

Source: DTMR - Heavy Vehicles Unit

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) advises that additional conditions have been introduced to the Conditions of Operation Database for Tommy Creek bridge, located 20kms north of Cloncurry on the Burke Developmental Road (89A).

These conditions are in response to recent inspections carried out via TMR that have identified cracking consistent with overstress.

While it is still safe for normal use, its capacity has been reduced, and it is being closely monitored to avoid further damage. Restrictions will be introduced on low loader and platform trailer combinations and will require affected operators to resubmit permit applications for detailed structural assessment prior to approval.

TMR is urgently investigating the matter to identify and implement alternate solutions for affected vehicles as a priority. Further updates and any changes to conditions will be communicated following completion of the investigation.
