TMR advises works will be undertaken on Woolcock Street (North Townsville Road) and on Duckworth Street, Garbutt to implement permanent speed limit reductions.
This project forms part of the Queensland Government’s Safer Roads Sooner (SRS) program, which aims to improve safety across the state-controlled road network. Project sites are selected based on identified safety concerns and a demonstrated need to reduce crash risk and improve outcomes for all road users.
Works will occur
The works will occur Friday 23 January 2026 between the hours of 6am and 6pm.
All construction works are subject to weather conditions.
Both of the works will involve the installation and removal of regulatory speed signage and associated line marking adjustments where required. No major civil works are anticipated.
Duckworth Street, Garbutt speed reduction
The speed limit on Duckworth Street will be reduced between the Dalrymple Road and Bayswater Road intersections from 70 km/h to 60 km/hr.
Woolcock Street speed reduction
The speed limit on Woolcock Street will be reduced near the Garland Road and Deeragun Road intersection from 80 km/h to 70 km/hr.
What to expect during the works
Road users can expect the following changed traffic conditions during these works:
Road users are asked to drive carefully through the roadwork zones, follow the directions of traffic controllers and adhere to reduced speed limits. All work is subject to construction progress and weather conditions. In the event of wet weather or unforeseen circumstances, activities will be rescheduled for the next available shift.
For the safety of road users and project crews, changed traffic conditions will be in place including temporary speed limit reductions.
Variable message signs will be in place on the approaches to the work site to ensure motorists are aware in advance of the changed traffic conditions.
