Nighttime maintenance works for the Barron River bridge on the Kennedy Highway (Cairns-Mareeba) will be carried out in May 2026.
As part of the ongoing inspection and maintenance program of the Barron River bridge, the next round of testing is scheduled for May. The works will occur between 8pm and 4ameach nightfrom Tuesday 5 May to Friday 29 May 2026.
Traffic management arrangements will be in place, as follows:
The bridge will operate as single lane over the four weeks between 8pm and 4am with reduced speed to 40km/h
For the final two weeks (18-29 May) short, intermittent full closures will be needed.
Variable Message Signs (VMSs) will be in place on the approaches to the work site to ensure motorists are aware of the changed traffic conditions. Any changes in dates due, for instance, to poor weather, will be posted on the VMSs.
