FNQ: Burke Developmental Road Upgrade Strategy

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is carrying out a planning study to identify potential future upgrades for the section of the Burke Developmental Road between Dunbar and Dimbulah. The study will develop a strategy to progressively upgrade the road over time to improve safety, efficiency and flood immunity.

The strategy will identify existing and likely future transport demand, existing deficiencies, and possible treatments, and then prioritise these upgrades for potential future implementation.

Any identified upgrades are currently unfunded. However, the outputs of this strategy will inform future TMR submissions for funds to deliver identified upgrades.

The project is expected to be completed by late 2026.
