FNQ: Captain Cook Highway - Bridge Servicing, various locations

Road Conditions (16 March, 2026)

Source: TMR

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is about to start routine servicing works on various bridges on the Captain Cook Highway.

The bridges included in these works are Saltwater Creek bridge, William Walter Mason Bridge, Thomatis Creek bridge, Avondale Creek bridge, Cattana Road Overpass, and Deep Creek bridge.

These works are a part of TMR’s regular bridge maintenance program to ensure the continued safety and reliability of bridges on the state-controlled road network.

The works are expected to start on Sunday 15 March 2026 at Saltwater Creek bridge before progressing to the other sites. To reduce the impact on motorists, the crews will be on site at night between 6 pm and 6 am. All works are expected to be completed within two weeks, weather and construction conditions permitting.

For the safety of road users and maintenance crews, changed traffic conditions will be in place including temporary speed limit reductions, and single lane operation under coordination of traffic controllers and/or traffic signals while the works are carried out.

Nearby properties may experience noise associated with the works, such as the sound of trucks and light machinery, and vibrations while the work is carried out. The contractor will take all reasonable and practicable actions to minimise impacts and any disruptions to property owners and other stakeholders.

Work crews will ensure emergency service vehicles are provided with access if required.

If you required further information about these works, please contact TMR via email at cairns.office@tmr.qld.gov.au or via phone on 4045 7144.
