Source: Department of Transport and Main Roads (23.05.25)

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is about to start works on a project to widen a single lane section to two lane full width sealed section on the Gulf Developmental Road (GDR) between Georgetown and Mt Garnet near the Gregory Developmental Road intersection.

This $12.06 million project is Package 4 of works jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments.

Package 4 is part of widening the remaining 24.8 kilometres of single lane sections to full width two lanes to full width sealed sections on the GDR between Croydon and Mt. Garnet.

The works will widen a section of 2.5km kilometres of single lane road to two lane full width sealed sections. The works include earthworks increase the width of the road, construction of new pavement, full width sprayed seal, culverts work, line making, adjustment of light poles, signs and crash barriers where required.

Works will be carried out from 6 am to 6 pm Monday to Saturday from Tuesday 3 June 2025. For the safety of workers and road users, changed traffic conditions including lane closures, speed reductions and may be in place under the direction of traffic controllers or traffic signals.

During the final stages of works intermittent full closures of the road will be required at times to carry out the works. Road users can expect delays of up to 15-minute periods during the full closures. Road users should plan their journeys accordingly.

Variable Message Boards (VMS) will be in place on the approaches to the work sites, prior to the works starting. Motorists should plan their journey accordingly.

We appreciate your understanding during the construction period as we aim to minimise delays as much as possible.
