Weather permitting, the following works are scheduled:

Geotechnical investigations will be carried out at night between the Barron River bridge and Black Mountain Road to support planning and design for the Barron River bridge replacement project. Traffic impacts will be as follows:

  • Single-lane closures will be in place between 7pm and 6am
  • Motorists should allow additional travel time (up to 5 minutes)

This project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments on a 50:50 basis.

Kuranda Range Road disaster recovery works, scheduled night closure, Sunday 2 August to Thursday 24 September 2026

Scheduled night closures will be required as part of ongoing disaster recovery works on Kuranda Range Road. Traffic impacts will be as follows:

  • Scheduled night closures between 9pm and 4am
  • Midnight (12am) traffic let-through
  • No closures on Friday or Saturday night

The recovery works are jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Barron River bridge maintenance works, Monday 3 August to Friday 28 August 2026

Night maintenance works will be undertaken on the Barron River bridge as part of TMR's ongoing bridge inspection and maintenance program. Traffic impacts will be as follows:

  • Single-lane traffic arrangements between 8pm and 4am
  • During the final two weeks, short intermittent full closures will be required
  • Full closures will pause during the Kuranda Range Road midnight let-through until queued traffic has cleared.

These works are funded by the Queensland Government.

Kuranda Range Road safety and resilience investigations, Monday 3 August to Friday 4 September 2026

Road surveying will be undertaken to inform future safety and resilience upgrades on Kuranda Range Road. Traffic impacts will be as follows:
  • Intermittent daytime single-lane closures at various locations along the range
  • Motorists should allow additional travel time
This project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments on an 80:20 basis.

TMR is coordinating these works to reduce impacts on road users and maximise efficiencies on this section of the Kennedy Highway.
