FNQ: Kennedy Hwy, Barron River bridge maintenance works

TMR advises night time maintenance and inspection works on the Barron River bridge will continue as part of the February program.
The move to night works follows a successful trial in November 2025, which resulted in shorter delays and reduced impacts on the community. The quarterly maintenance and inspection program ensures the Barron River bridge remains safely in operation while TMR deliver a replacement structure.
Works will occur
The works will occur between 9pm and 4am each day from Monday 2 February to Friday 27 February 2026.
Traffic conditions
The bridge will operate as single lane over the four weeks between 9pm and 4am
For the final two weeks (16-27 February) short, intermittent full closures will be needed.
Variable Message Signs (VMSs) will be in place on the approaches to the work site to ensure motorists are aware of the changed traffic conditions. Any changes in dates due, for instance, to poor weather, will be posted on the VMSs.
