FNQ-Palmerston HWY Reconstruction Update

Road Conditions (27 January, 2026)

TMR advises the progress of the current  Palmerston Hwy reconstruction works. 

Site 1 (2.5km west of Crawfords Lookout)

  • Piling works continue on the downslope slip with more than 80 per cent completed.
  • Construction has commenced on the capping beam, which is built on the piles to secure them together.  The capping beam also functions as a retaining wall for the road embankment.
  • The site is under single-lane traffic control.

Site 2 (1.5km west of Henrietta Creek day use area) 

  • Linemarking of the new pavement is expected to be completed in the coming weeks, weather permitting.
  • This section is currently under a reduced speed limit.

Traffic management

  • If you are last in queue at work sites, please turn on your hazard lights to warn approaching vehicles.

  •  QLDTraffic or 131940 is the best source of information about current traffic conditions.
