Mackay Sector Showcase: Showcasing Transport & Logistics Careers

Skills & Training (11 May, 2026)

The Queensland Trucking Association Ltd (QTA), through its Transport Workforce Futures (TWF) team, proudly participated in the recent Mackay Sector Showcase as Industry Skills and Jobs Advisors.

This event provided an excellent platform to engage directly with the Mackay community, promote career opportunities in the transport and logistics sector, and highlight the vital role the industry plays in Queensland’s economy.

Event Highlights

During the showcase, the TWF team actively connected with a wide range of stakeholders, including:

  • Industry stakeholders and employers seeking solutions to workforce challenges
  • Young people enthusiastic about exploring career options in transport and logistics
  • Job seekers, including individuals looking to re-enter the workforce
  • Education and training providers interested in industry-aligned pathways
Key Activities

The TWF team focused on promoting careers and training pathways across the transport and logistics sector. Discussions centred on:

  • Current programs and initiatives supporting workforce entry and skills development
  • Practical pathways into heavy vehicle driving, logistics operations, and supply chain roles
  • Government-funded training opportunities, including apprenticeships and pre-employment programs
  • Employment outcomes and long-term career progression available in the industry

Particular emphasis was placed on the Heavy Vehicle Apprenticeship (Certificate III in Driving Operations – TLI31222) and other workforce development initiatives designed to build a strong, skilled pipeline of workers for Queensland’s transport industry.

Positive Engagement

The team was encouraged by the high level of interest from attendees. Many young people showed genuine enthusiasm for hands-on careers in trucking, logistics, and supply chain operations. Equally rewarding were the conversations with individuals keen to re-enter the workforce, where the QTA could outline clear, supported pathways back into stable employment.

The Mackay Sector Showcase reinforced the strong future workforce potential within the transport and logistics sector and the industry’s critical contribution to Queensland’s economy and supply chains.

Looking Ahead

Events like the Mackay Sector Showcase play an important role in bridging the gap between job seekers and industry opportunities. The QTA remains committed to working with employers, job seekers, and training providers to address skills shortages and build a robust transport workforce across Queensland.
