Metro: Major road closures, Bridge to Brisbane - Sunday 13 September

The 2026 Bridge to Brisbane will be held on Sunday 13 September, with road closures in place across Brisbane from 2:00 am to 12:30 pm. 

Major road closures and changed traffic conditions will affect parts of Brisbane throughout the event, with traffic management coordinated by the Queensland Police Service and event traffic management providers. 

The event will also result in significant closures across the Transurban network, including the Gateway Motorway southbound, Gateway Bridge southbound (Sir Leo Hielscher Bridge), Inner City Bypass, AirportlinkM7 and Clem7. 

Key road closures 

• The Gateway Motorway southbound between the Southern Cross Way off-ramp at Nudgee and the Port of Brisbane Motorway on-ramp at Murarrie will be closed from 4:30 am to 9:30 am. This includes the Gateway Bridge southbound and a number of associated ramps at Moreton Drive, Kingsford Smith Drive, Southern Cross Way and the Port of Brisbane Motorway. The southbound off-ramp to Lytton Road will be closed from 2:00 am to 9:30 am. 

• The Inner City Bypass will be affected in both directions from 3:00 am to 12:30 pm, while the AirportlinkM7 Campbell Street on and off ramps at Bowen Hills and the Clem7 southbound off-ramp from the Inner City Bypass will also be closed from 3:00 am to 12:30 pm. 

Toll-free travel during Gateway Bridge closure 

To assist motorists while the southbound Gateway Bridge is closed, AirportlinkM7 southbound and Clem7 southbound tunnels will be toll free on Sunday 13 September between 4:30 am and 9:30 am. 

Heavy vehicle operators 

Heavy vehicles including B-doubles carrying oversized loads or dangerous goods will need to plan ahead to avoid travelling during this time, or park at the Nudgee Service Centre until the bridge reopens.

Roads will progressively reopen as the event moves through Brisbane; however, delays and disruptions should be expected across the affected network.

Heavy vehicle operators and other road users travelling through Brisbane during this period are encouraged to review the planned closures in advance and factor potential delays or alternative routes into journey planning.
