Early works are now underway for the upgrade of the Bruce Highway-Walker Street intersection in Maryborough, with a new dual-lane, four-leg roundabout to be constructed.

The upgrade will connect Showgrounds Road, Walker Street and the Bruce Highway, with works aimed at improving safety and traffic flow through the busy intersection.

Early works include site preparation and vegetation clearing ahead of major construction commencing in the coming months.

The new roundabout will largely follow the existing road footprint and will be constructed without land resumptions, helping to minimise impacts on the local community and traffic travelling along the Bruce Highway.

The existing 60km/h speed limit on the Bruce Highway will remain, with all-access movements and local connectivity to and from Maryborough to be maintained.

Construction is expected to be completed in 2028, weather and other conditions permitting.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said the project had been designed to minimise disruption to existing traffic during construction.

“We’re mostly building it away from existing traffic to minimise disruption, and we’re starting the early works now so that we can get shovels in the ground as soon as possible and open the roundabout to traffic in 2028,” Minister Mickelberg said.
