Source: TMR

TMR advises the southbound lanes of the Bruce Highway at Tanawha between Brisbane and Gympie will be temporarily closed to all vehicles for interim treatments to the Ilkley Road Overpass due to the recent bridge strike on 6 February 2026.

When

A full closure of the Bruce Highway southbound lanes will be held

  • Wednesday 18 February between 6:00pm and 5:00am

Weather and construction conditions permitting. A weather contingency date is set for the night of Thursday 19 February.

Travel conditions

Detours will be in place for all vehicles traveling southbound via Maroochydore Road and the Sunshine Motorway.

Northbound lanes to remain open.

The southbound lanes are currently operating with a reduced 80km/h speed limit.

Single lane closures will occur overnight on both Tuesday 17 February 2026 and Thursday 19 February 2026, between 9:00pm and 5:00am, for the installation of monitoring instruments and testing on the overpass.

Road users should expect short delays of up to 10 minutes at times during these works. It is expected these restrictions will impact OSOM vehicle movements.
